“Play of shadow across a solid, energizing the “empty” space between forms, capturing the shift of reflected light, a subtle rainbow of mineral color, broad gestural marks and flame imprinted surface are inspirations to transform earth into art.  It’s an unpredictable search for the elemental; strengthen the idea by reducing it to essentials.  My ceramic work is influenced by simplicity in architecture, painting and sculpture of the Modern Design Movement.  Classic techniques, drawing on paper, applying systems of proportion, observing historic precedent, perception theory of composition, using manual tools to build by hand, firing with wood fuel in an atmospheric kiln, judging the result by eye and feel are my resources.”
